Rank Math is an SEO plugin for WordPress. Launched in 2018, it has since become the biggest alternative to Yoast SEO. Just like Yoast, it lets you manage page titles, meta descriptions and technical SEO settings directly in the WordPress backend.
The most obvious difference: even the free version of Rank Math includes many features that other plugins reserve for a premium licence or separate add-ons.
What can Rank Math do?
The plugin is modular, so you only switch on what you need:
- page title, meta description and snippet preview per page
- several focus keywords per post
- a schema generator for structured data such as FAQ, product or article
- a redirect manager for 301 redirects plus a 404 monitor
- XML sitemap and control over indexing
- a connection to Google Search Console
Rank Math or Yoast SEO – what really matters?
For rankings it makes almost no difference which of the two plugins you use. Both set the same technical signals. What matters is that the plugin is configured properly – and that you never run two SEO plugins at the same time. Otherwise you end up with duplicate meta tags, two sitemaps and conflicting structured data.
When you switch, Rank Math imports your Yoast SEO settings through a setup wizard. Spot-check titles, redirects and schema afterwards anyway. A WordPress SEO agency handles migrations like this without putting rankings at risk.
