What is referencement?

Referencement is a French term that describes all measures aimed at making a website visible in search engines. At its core it corresponds to what you know as search engine optimisation (SEO).

The term is used above all in French-speaking regions and covers both organic optimisation (SEO) and, in part, paid measures (SEA). The goal is always for your website to appear as high up as possible in the search results for relevant queries.

This is not only about keywords, but also about technical factors, content and external signals such as backlinks. Referencement is therefore a holistic approach to improving a website’s findability in the long term.

What does it include?

  • Optimisation of content and keywords
  • Technical improvements to the website
  • Building backlinks and authority
  • Analysis of search behaviour and competitors
  • In part also paid ads (depending on the definition)

Why is it important?

Referencement determines whether your website is found or not. In highly competitive markets in particular, good visibility in search engines such as Google is a decisive success factor.

If you optimise your content in a targeted way, you reach more relevant users, increase your traffic and raise your conversions in the long term.
